Guest Cat #15: Travelling Sian
Sorry for the incredibly long delay between posts.    The Woman says: "problems with Internet at home" and "Work insanity".  She mumbles something about headaches, lack of sleep, Sick Giant, stress, stress, some more stress etc.  She will get cracking next week!  Promise! (or just cracked).

The Cat Says:  No Damn Excuses!  Forget about Work!  Why aren't you petting The Cat??

Guest Cat #15, Sian, shows off some of her many talents in this photo.   She's also quite a traveller.  She was born in Toronto, but is currently living in New York City with rackle.  The Woman has known Sian since she was a wee kitten... in fact Sian was the first kitten The Woman ever saw.

The Woman worked with Rackle and TT many years ago... well. 7yrs or so.  And one night TT found Momcat out in the cold and rescued her.  Turns out Momcat was about to be a Mom.  Momcat had  emergency surgery days after the kittens were born, so Sian and her three brothers were all hand-reared by TT, Rackle and other volunteers.  The night before Sian was born, Rackle dreamt of a black kitten - and when Sian was born she was so dark she looked black.   It was just meant to be.

Sian, btw, was almost named Grep*.   But when she was about 5wks old she was sleeping on Rackle's leg and woke up.  She looked up into Rackle's eyes and Rackle says, "I heard a silent chorus of (about six) voices all saying "Sian, Sian, Sian, Sian..." in my head."  So Sian it was.

*the woman says:
she thinks Zcat would have been good too (and of course thinks: Zed-Cat)

Sian has a beautiful fluffy tail. It's gorgeous. :D

Sian is definitely all of those things and thank-you for saying so. :^)

Here's a photo of Sian when she was wee.

I actually squeed out loud at my desk at work! lol

Hee hee... wait a minute. I think I've seen you before... yes, on the LJ kittenbreak RSS feed. I've never posted there, but I thought your icon looked familiar. I did submit that wee Sian photo to the website last year.

Sian still has that effect on me. :^)

Thanks, Cat and Woman, for posting this.

I remember that freezing January night (just over seven years ago) TT called me on my cell phone to help her rescue Sian's mom (who TT still lives with) from near our workplace.

I also remember that dream: I'd pulled the tiny black kitten out of a child's swimming pool (so it was wet in the dream) and held her up to my face. Then my cat Labrys and my sister's cat Mia (we lived together at the time) put their faces up close to the kitten in my hand. Labrys died that March of cancer and Mia died in October, also of (complications due to) cancer...

Of course I read zcat as 'zed-cat' - I'm still Canadian. Actually, one of Sian's brothers had been named Cat-5 (he'd been the last of five kittens born, though one died so there were only four in the litter), but his new people named him Charlie.

Sian is certainly among the most adored kitties in the universe. There must be a way I can work her into my cat lady film. ;^)

This has nothing to do with lovely Sian, but...

I have a chinchilla named Z. And, yes, it is pronounced Zed.
the_cat_saysthe_cat_says on March 9th, 2007 07:58 pm (UTC)
well that's an excellent name for anyone! The woman thinks it's great.
Eobsidiabuttrfly on March 12th, 2007 07:48 pm (UTC)
I am in complete agreement, of course.

i'd try doing that - but no doubt someone in the office would take a photo of me trying and I'd never live it down.

Actually, if I *could* do that I'd probably quit my day job.

My sister can get pretty close: she can touch the tip of nose with the tip of her tongue. Not quite the same as *wrapping* your nose with your tongue, but hey, humans are limited that way. :^)

She looked up
Should've gone with "Grep", then.

::is a dork::

This gives me too many bad ideas for when I finally relocate to someone that allows The Mighty Progeny of Bast. "Chmod" would be a good one, "Perl" would seem innocuous to the Normals, but how about a Cat Named "Su".

Ha! Cat named 'Su'. Made me grin. :^D

Would you believe I have TAR XVF license plates?

I'm not sure what, if anything, I should do since I got laid off three years ago left sysadmin work to make art and films.

Some commands make for better names than others. Chmod works, but "These are the cats, Uptime and Umask" - hmmm. What do you want to bet someone out there has already named their cats Vi and Emacs?

Well, someone has to! Might as well be you, right?

I'm not sure what, if anything, I should do
Log in to your old workplace and type "sudo rm -rf /*" would be the obvious thing. Or did you mean about your plates? Actually, RM -R * would be great plates, but I doubt they allow special characters.

I dunno, I think Uptime and Umask are good names (if a bit odd). Chgrp less so. Cat would be the pinnacle, but who's going to get it? I guess you could use it as the ultimate shibboleth for who's a computer dork:
- hey what's your cat's name?
- cat
- ahahahahahahaha!
- ok, u = nerd

already named their cats Vi and Emacs
Only if they fight all the time.
mikosianmikosian on March 12th, 2007 01:08 pm (UTC)
Yeah, I meant the plates. ;^P

Yup, no special chars allowed, hence my use of a command with args that don't need the leading dash (nevermind asterisks).

I guess I'll keep 'em for now, until the nerd squad revokes my membership.
